Cella by Phoebe Cummings. Phoebe's intent for Cella was to create something reminiscent of a cave ceiling. Pieces of terracotta clay were pressed through a strainer then assembled into a large, suspended mass that was left unfired. Each bit of clay looks something like a sea anemone and gives the impression of a reef or some kind of organic environment when clumped together. For 2 weeks, Cella occupied the main gallery of UH Manoa and slowly transitioned to bone dry clay.
Holes poked by curious viewers.
