WIP Another Carved Cup

Yay more carving! I'm in progress of finishing this cup. It's design is similar to the previous one, but with more water or wave influence. It's the first thing I've thrown with southern ice porcelain, which I can only describe as a very sassy clay body. I've already carved through the wall a couple times and the surface develops bubbles when I spray it. Whyyyyy?

Carved Cup

I got back into carving with this cup. It was supposed to be the fourth abstracted lotus cup, but I ran out of colored clay and was too lazy to wedge more... Thrown porcelain with celadon glaze.

Abstracted Lotus Cups

I designed these cups going off of the lotus theme of my sculpture project. It's a bit more abstracted and what made it really fun was the colored clay balls, which were inserted into the wall of the cup. It feels pretty cool : D.

Stains Experiment

I made a porcelain stain and brushed it over a thrown bowl. The inside is glazed with a clear, which somehow turned brown... and the outside is left bare.

Hobo Chicken With Daven Hee

Daven Hee teaches ceramics over the summer at UH Manoa. Just for fun, he showed us how to cook in the kilns. Everyone got a chicken, which they prepared to their liking. This included gutting it (@_@), seasoning it, and wrapping it up with ti leaves, foil, and clay.

I've never handled a raw chicken before >w<. It felt weird.

Keny prepping to prep the chicken.

Stuffing the chicken... ewwwww.

Chickens in the kiln.

This is how you know its cooked.

Lauren unwrapping her chicken.

Lookin' yummy!

Keny wrapped his in bacon *o*!

Haaaaa Theresa got chicken juice on her.

Extra Studio Clean-Up

The studio gets cleaned at the end of each semester, but this is what it looked like only a week into summer... somehow it just got cluttered and messy again. This time we decided to clean it extra thoroughly by throwing out old junk, organizing EVERYTHING, vacuuming atop the lights, and spraying down the floors. Emails were sent out to recruit anyone willing to help out. Only the bravest souls showed up.
What I imagine Momi saying: WHYYYYY?

Drippy Glaze Fixer Upper

I used a particularly drippy glaze combination on a couple of cups. Even though I left a lot of space for the drips to fall, the glaze still managed to make its way down to the foot and kiln shelf. With a little help from my friend Kenny, we managed to remove most of the excess glaze using a grinding wheel. I then used a flex shaft to clean up and polish the remaining glaze (very stylishly as you can see).
